Does a legacy who applies RD lose their advantage? I've read that on here and I'm just looking to confirm. I am strongly considering Cornell for ED but I'm not 100% yet. Both parents attended (sister did too, if that counts)

No, you do not lose your advantage.

The issue is that more legacies apply ED, so they are an unusually higher part of the admit rate there. You stand the same chance either way, although being a legacy is not a guarantee for admit (about 36% of legacies were accepted last year). And legacy helps in RD when it gets competitive and the field of candidates is all equal–your legacy status would help there.

FYI–your sister does not count toward legacy, but your double legacy of parents does.

You would have a better chance of getting in if you apply ED as a legacy - use it or lose it. It’s the case with most schools that value alumni involvement.
