Does anyone know how much legacy plays in the admissions decisions at UChicago, if at all?

There was a discussion on this topic here a week or so ago. The data was inconclusive. Since they explicitly ask whether anyone in your family is connected to Chicago and how, it must play some role. How much role it plays is probably related to the size of the checkbook of your parents and their history of past donations or likelihood of future donations.

Based upon a certain retarded UChicago student that I know, being a legacy must count for a lot, at least in some cases.

Admissions claims no preference, no reserved spots.

And they ask for this information in the application because.....?!?!?

no clue!....

They probably just ask for demographic data...

They do seem to appreciate Legacies though ... they sent back the admissions fee to all applicants with legacy. But I personally think that's just a nice thing to do, it has no bearing on the admissions decision.

I'm sure that, like all schools, Chicago is interested in their community. Students from U of C families may have a common outlook on education. Mine sons certainly grew being asked to " define your terms" during discussions-- that's a legacy of my college years.
