Pretty basic question.
I was reading that the Ivy’s admit rate increases substantially if you’re a legacy student. Neither of my parents went to an Ivy, (UCLA, state schools unfortunately, so no legacy system there) however my grandfather went to Yale. If I apply, would I be considered a legacy student?
Thanks.
There is a Yale supplement question that asks if any grandparents attended Yale, undergrad or grad school, so it must count for something. Before you think legacy gives you a big advantage, remember that the legacy rate is higher in some measure because legacies tend to form a more competitive pool as many will have all the advantages of higher SES.
