My daughter is applying ED to a very competitive school. Both of her siblings went to Vanderbilt, as did I (her mother). If she doesn't get into her first choice and applies to Vanderbilt RD, will that hurt her chances of admission? I'm just wondering if Vanderbilt admissions will realize that and not accept her. Her stat's definitely fall in range and I do believe she'd be admitted to Vanderbilt ED if that was her first choice.

Vanderbilt will not know that she applied ED to a different school.

EDI to competitive school
EDII to Vanderbilt

Solves that issue…

Some schools only consider legacy in the ED rounds; no idea if Vandy is one of them…

I guess I’m concerned that they will “know” she didn’t apply there ED, so it will imply, and rightly so, that it’s not her first choice.

Thanks for the input.

As rodney stated, she can do ED at her first choice and if she is not accepted she can do ED II at Vandy. With you and her two sisters having attended she must know almost everything about Vandy. Does she have an interest in Vandy? When my second was applying, admissions advised that a sibling attending/graduate will be looked at as a positive in both ED and RD (this is not true of all schools). Students don’t apply ED for many reasons.

She is the best student of the group and is going to apply ED to Cornell Engineering. She also likes Notre Dame, which is EA. Vanderbilt isn’t on the early list and my daughter said she may want to do something different. We do know a lot about the school, since I went there as well. There are no mysteries! It is the perfect school in the perfect town, so I’m hoping it could be an option down the line if things don’t go as planned.
