I am a legacy and I was waitlisted and I just wondered if they do some kind of courtesy waitlisting for all the legacies so as not to get anyone, especially their sources of $$$, too ****ed off. I guess I was waitlisted at Swarthmore and Amherst as well, but those are slightly easier to get into.

I've seen legacies rejected.

Don't worry about it, Harvard reevaluates everyone when time comes for people to get off the waitlist...

Kamikazewave, you really have no idea what you are talking about.

When admissions officers at Harvard select people from the waitlist, they look to find people who will fill the class and create a well rounded class. If the class lacks people from Arkansas, students who are likely to major in the classics, people who are Mexican-American, live on farms or who play the bassoon, those will be the people who get in.

It's not as if the admissions officers rank students on the waitlist based on gpa, scores, etc. and then pick those who have the strongest stats.

yeah... I suppose I should stop obsessing. There's really no reason.
