Did any other legacies get deferred? I've heard that they defer legacies rather than rejecting them outright just to let them down easy. So I don't know if I actually have a chance in the regular round or if they're just stringing me along because I'm a legacy.

Does anyone know of legacies who were deferred and then accepted? And does anyone know how to find out the legacy accept rate?

I don’t know, but I’d prefer to be rejected now than later. If it is a bad enough applicant, they probably defer just to appease the parents.

I too am a deferred legacy… who knows, maybe they’re hoping for a donation. Ha. Ha. Not going to happen if that’s the case. They’ll probably end up giving us guaranteed transfers or something like that.

Are there any statistics for deferrals turning in to acceptances?

I wouldn’t say they are just stringing you along because you are a legacy.

They are trying to give your application a second chance to be accepted in the RD round.
If you still aren’t strong enough in RD round then you will be rejected.
If you are borderline you will be given a guaranteed transfer preferentially over non legacy admits.
But if you are qualified you will be accepted.

2 years ago I was a legacy and was deferred and I got accepted during the regular decision round so they aren’t necessarily just stringing you along.

Thanks for posting that, Prism. It’s heartening!
