Legacy: Does it matter?

I know a person who has 8 people in his family who have gone to Stanford. His grandparents and parents donate large sums of money to the university. Does this greatly increase his chances of getting in?

Definitely. This person is probably a shoo-in with somewhat competitive stats.

well, he has a 3.6 GPA (4.2 weighted)
New SAT:
Critical Reading: 690
Math: 740
Writing: 680

Subject Tests:
US History: 760
Chemistry: 750
Math IIC: 770

wants to major in international relations or economics

he's the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper
volunteers
national merit commended
played tennis
in clubs

etc.

those are pretty competitive aren't they?

by the way, he applied early

I would say he's in.

yup I agree...
with those stats and his legacy it'd be odd for him to NOT get in...
sadly.. he's taking someone's spot at stanford on here

thanks. that's what i thought.

lol he's not neccessarily taking the spot of someone on here! he's only taking the spot of someone not too qualified =]...keeps telling self that

lol... someone less qualified than him

lol less qualified than he
