What exactly is the deal with legacy status at Stanford? Would it be more beneficial as a legacy applicant to apply EA rather than RD, or does it really not matter?

rumor tells that it is better for legacies to apply REA, but who really knows…

All of the people I know who got in REA from my school were legacies. None of the RD people from my school who got in were legacies.

I don’t think this means much, but I thought I would post it anyway.

It’s best not to rely on legacy status (of course). I heard that being a legacy is getting less significant year after year, but this is could just be another rumor

of all of the top 10-ish schools, legacy seems to be decreasing in significance at the fastest rate at stanford, just by my personal observation. there are still many legacies admitted, but there are also LOTS of legacies rejected

Unless you are a legacy with parents who make a donation to S. in the seven + figures range, it serves at best as an “all else equal” advantage.
