Legacy ED at SLAC vs. Unhooked SCEA Ivy Lottery Ticket?

@Chrchill I guess the president of Kenya and the Prince of Monaco didn’t get your “no one cares about LACs outside the US” memo :smiley:

@OHMomof2 Clearly their “global prospects” will be hurting big time.

I have been following this, and am glad there was a happy ending for your D. UChicago is an amazing school, and will open many doors for her. Congratulations!

Congrats! @KnightsRidge

@wisteria100 @deweydecimal55 @OHMomof2 @Chrchill @Twinsdad499 @“Cariño” Thanks all! In the end, this crazed admissions journey worked out well for D. She did say she wishes she could go to college several times b/c she knows she’d have great experiences and make great friends at any of the schools she was admitted to. Funny how life goes–a year ago UChicago wasn’t even on my D’s radar and here we are. She is excited about her choice and wore her UChicago t-shirt to school this morning. I spoke with a Williams classmate last night whose son will be an Eph 22 and they were already making plans for Homecoming this fall. I have to admit feeling a tad envious. Crazy, right? Anyway, Chicago orientation week doesn’t start until late Sept so we have D home for an extra month :wink:

@Chrchill Please stop. As a UChicago grad, I’m begging you. You are making us look bad. Worse, you are making us look insecure and needy.

UChicago is elite as can be, it holds up against HYPSM just fine by every measure - but for undergrads, so do Amherst and Williams. I have kids at both right now - I know. Amherst and Williams place their students into top grad schools and elite jobs just as well as UChicago does for its undergrads. These are the two best small colleges in the world, and they have a two century track record of proving that they are extremely good at what they do - educating undergraduates.

@KnightsRidge Congrats! UChicago is awesome and she will have a great experience.

@KnightsRidge – one of my sons went to UChicago as a math major and took many CS classes. Had a great experience, is doing well in the CS universe and is quite happy. My other son deliberated (like mathmom’s S2) between Tufts and Chicago til May 1st and picked Tufts.

Williams & Amherst are stellar schools – just a different experience than a mid-sized research U. S1 wanted the Core – but he found the FL language requirement kicked his tail. If your S exempts out of the FL, that’s one hurdle out of the way!

@KnightsRidge congratulation, awesome opportunities.
