Legacy Hook?

Hi! I'm a junior in high school, and for college, Princeton tops my list, especially the engineering school. I believe that I could be a competitive candidate for Princeton (but isn't almost everyone who applies...?); however, my father attended Princeton as an athletic recruit, and I was wondering if, and if so, to what extent, being a legacy affects your chance of admissions. Oh, I am also an runner with a good shot of competing in college. Thanks so much for your help!

Fortunately for you, Princeton seems to still value legacies more than most of the other Ivies. Last year, they accepted about 30% of the legacies that applied. That being said, you should apply early to get most of the legacy boost and these days most admitted legacies to the top Ivies appear to have have stats and ec’s equal to or above that of the average of their admitted class. his begs the question of whether they really needed or even got a boost at all.

Thanks @falcon1!! I definitely plan to apply SCEA next year. Princeton has been my dream school as long as I can remember!

Anyone else?

I would agree! Definitely apply SCEA for your legacy to really provide an advantage.

“That being said”. Let’s get rid of that expression! That not being said, Princeton continues to ignore merit in favor of legacy. Yes you have a better chance then others. Won’t you always wonder if you could have made it on your own? Mom’s coattails are only so long!

The irony and humor of pointing out an over used phrase followed immediately by incorrect grammar is not lost on me. ;)

Just interjecting some humor here! Such serious stuff.
