My Dad was a harvard law school professor and he also graduated from there...is that a hook?

I would say so.

That's more of a legacy (a very good one at that) than a hook.

Legacy = good
Hook = good
Legacy + Hook = really good

Yeah, how much is considered a legacy/hook? Say, if you had a close cousin go there as opposed to a sister or parent?

Wow, now that is impressive. Legacy is only through direct descent, ie fathers, mothers, grand fathers, grand mothers. If your sibling is exceptional it may factor into the decision but that is not official policy and it is not considered legacy. Cousins and what naught do not count at all.

"Was" a professor...do you mean that he retired, or that he left HLS for another institution?

Was he a full, tenured professor at HLS?

he left HLS (he's currently teaching at another institution that I would also love to go to school to)...I think he was more of an employee of the Harvard Lawschool than a professor..but he taught there

I would suggest not using your username on anything associated with Harvard's application/email on application etc :)

LOL yeah..

If he was a lecturer or teaching fellow or something like that, I don't think that will have any impact on your application.

The kids of current tenured faculty definitely get an extra look.
