Legacy in Graduate School

If you have parents that went to UPENN grad school does that help you get into UPENN undergrad admission.

You would still count as a legacy for undergraduate admissions purposes. If a parent or grandparent graduated from any of Penn’s schools, whether undergraduate or graduate, an applicant is a legacy under Penn’s admissions policies.

You should note, however, that as publicly stated numerous times by Penn officials–including Dean of Admissions Eric Furda and President Amy Gutmann–legacy status is really only taken into consideration during the Early Decision round.

Yes, my understanding is that all alumni count for purposes of legacy, whether undergrad, grad, or professional school.

And double yes on ED round for legacies; my son will apply (in fall 2014) to Penn ED, with fingers crossed. I’ve been told there is virtually NO statistical benefit to apply as a legacy RD, maybe less than a percentage point difference between legacy and non-legacy, and that ED benefits can be something like 30% of legacies accepted (per Penn admissions legacy applicant advisory meetings) vs. non-legacy ED a bit more than non-legacy RD and legacy RD.
