Legacy, Legacy, Legacy

As we get closer to the TBD decision day for regular decision applicants, I'm starting to get anxious. I applied OOS and I do understand the difficulty getting into UNC-CH from OOS. However, because I am a legacy applicant (Father MBA), where do I stand in terms of chance? In other words, I've heard that an OOS legacy applicant is treated as an in-state applicant, is this true or just a myth? Does it depend on how active my father is within the UNC-CH community?

My basic stats just for reference:

SAT: 2010 (620 CR, 720 M, 680 CR)
GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.0 W
Good EC's w/ leadership
Good CA essay and UNC essay w/ a slight twist

Thanks, much love.

who knows? My D’s friend applied early admission…she has good stats (slightly higher than yours) and has both her dad and her grandfather as alums…she did not get in EA…and now anxiously awaiting Friday…

@SouthernHope Was she an in-state applicant? And how active were her dad and grandfather with the UNC community (if you know the answer to this)?

She’s out of state…so that’s a mark against her…but i believe her dad/granddad are pretty active with the school…

My D got in OOS and I am an MPH graduate. Her SAT was 2120, GPA3.9 UW, 7 ap. I asked the admission counselor this question and he said legacy gets OOS kids “off the bubble” and the bubble is higher for them. Unfortunately, she will not be attending. Hard to justify 4X tuition cost for the same education as instate kids.
