Legacy OOS UNC-any extra thoughts?

"For alumni children from out of state, [legacy] plays a more significant role [than for in-state applicants]. These students will have a slight competitive edge over students from out of state who are not children of alumni."
This comes straight off of <a href="http://www.admissions.unc.edu/faq/applying.htm#notification%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.unc.edu/faq/applying.htm#notification</a></p>

I realize that legacy can be important, but does anyone have any idea as to how important? Like grades of legacy applicants oos who were rejected last year?

Also, what about number of descendants who have gone to carolina? My family goes back 4 generations to the great-great-grandmother. Is that any more important?

Any opinion would be great

The key word there is slight. It might give you an edge over someone with similar stats from your geographical area, but it won't help much with the whole oos applicant pool. Admission to Carolina in state or out is very hard to predict.......but your stats are good, so you have as good a chance as anyone else. Hope you make it to Chapel Hill!
