Legacy Question

Will my younger daughter have a better chance to be accepted at Claremont with an older sibling currently attending CMC? She is currently a junior tracking to graduate high school with 4.1 GPA (Weighted) and 3.94 GPA (unweighted), but will not take the ACT until this spring. She has the extracurriculars covered with community service, leadership, and strong athletics. She will also look at the other top liberal arts schools nationwide, but prefers the west over New England. Thanks in advance for your input. Does legacy relationship help siblings or only sons/daughters?

Only sons and daughters.

Thanks Wonandering. My daughter is trying to develop her college short list.

@ccooke925, I just want to point out that on the CMC part of the Common App, there is a section entitled Family and it asks: "Have any relatives ever attended Claremont McKenna College? If you answer yes, there is another question: “Are any of those relatives a grandparent, sibling, uncle/aunt, cousin or any other relatives?” If you answer yes to that, there is a drop down menu to designate the type of relative (brother, sister, grandparent, etc.), name and # of degrees. So they DO ask about it. Therefore it must carry some weight. Actually it’s kind of perplexing for us because D’s father graduated from CMC and the one relative they don’t include in the drop down menu is PARENTS. But I guess they figure that info is already available from the Family part of the Common App.

I’m not sure why Wonandering says that. When I attended CMC there was definite sibling preference. The admissions office talked about it openly and cultivated it. That may not be true any more, but I would definitely ask CMC about it rather than taking the word of anyone here unless they have first hand knowledge. Best of luck, CMC is a wonderful school. I’m actually more interested in Scripps for my daughters at this point in time.

Thank you. My daughter will visit CMC before Thanksgiving. Scripps is a great option.
