I've recently found out that my great Uncle went to UofMi. He's around 70-80 I suppose, I've yet to find out what year he graduated. Will this still count as legacy?

No, alumni relation only counts if it is a parent or sibling.

I was deferred in the fall. My sister is a sophomore at UMich, she's been very successful in the Honors Program. Will this have any impact on my application? If so, to what extent?

Grandparents count too but probably not granduncles.

goblue: That is true, thanks for the correction ;)

svg: probably won't make a huge difference, seeing that they saw that relation in the initial evaluation anyway.

How big of an impact does legacy have, anyway? My dad went to Michigan for undergrad and my mom for her grad school.

Under the old points system, I think you got 4 points if you had a parent go here and 1 point if you only had a grandparent/sibling having gone here, and you needed something like 100 points to get in. They didn't stack in any way, you could only either get 4,1, or 0. If you can find a copy of the old points sheet, you can see what they at least used to consider equivalent to 4 "points". My ballpark guess is something along the lines of .1-.3 increase in GPA, or maybe 100-300 point increase in SAT. It's not important enough to be considered a kind of hook, I'd consider it something to smooth out whatever the weakest part of your application package may be.
