Hello
Im just wondering how much does legacy status boost your application in the admissions process?

Unless you're a very important legacy, it's pretty marginal.

^ hmm... i know TONS of legacies. Many of whom were from families who donated very little if anything at all. ALL of them were accepted.

^

Maybe your friends were good, interesting students. Perhaps smart Yale alumni have smart offspring that can also get into Yale. Just because you know a few that got in doesn't mean that legacy counts for much. I know four legacy Yale kids from high school... and guess what? They were rejected/waitlisted... and they were good students, too. What I can tell you is this: legacy will not get you in if you already weren't on the threshold. There are plenty of kids who are very qualified to get into Yale, but due to the crazy low acceptance rates, aren't offered admissions. If you're in that category, it may help you. Otherwise, unless you're a very serious donor family, it won't make much of a difference.
