What counts as a legacy? Does the relative have to be an undergraduate graduate (that sounds soo weird...)? What about siblings? I only ask because my dad got a Ph.D from Cornell, while my brother got a B.S. I'm not entirely sure if I'm a legacy, but I did get a letter from Cornell which mentioned this connection....

double legacy lucky bastard

On the part 1 it only looks like they count father, mother, grandparents, great-grandparents towards your legacy status. My sister goes to Cornell, so I just wrote her name on the line, and put sister down in parenthesis.

There was a space on the Common Application for siblings and what college they attended, so I put my brother on there. I also got a letter recognizing my legacy status, but I still wonder whether that will or will not give me a boost in admissions.

I thought legacy was only if a parent/grandparent attended the college? I had an older sibling attend to Cornell, but I never got a letter

I'm assuming that the letter was recognizing that my dad got a Ph.D there...

Yeah, I don't think that my sister counts as a legacy.

How much easier is it to get in with a legacy?

towerpumpkin-I got the legacy letter too (my dad, and two of my grandparents are cornellians). Anyway, I thought the letter was kind of weird... was there anything we were supposed to do in response?
