Legacy?

Does NYU have any policies regarding the legacy of family in their application process? My sister attended the school a few years ago, would it be any easier for me to get in?

Thanks!

To my knowledge NYU has no legacy considerations.

Actually, NYU asks for family affiliations on the application.

Also, children of alumni definitely have the application fee waived - not sure about siblings, but you could always ask. Call the Alumni Relations office.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you think I would get in with some aid with the following resume?

Which school within NYU?

Probably School of Medicine?

The Common Data Set for NYU shows that alumni/ae relation is “Considered”.

[NYU > Office of Institutional Research and Program Evaluation > About Us](http://www.nyu.edu/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/cmd276/fact.book.data/submit_factbook2.pl?view=3&year=20083&cdspage=c)

Do you mean pre-health (pre-med) in the school of Arts and Sciences?

Yes, sorry haha and thanks for the link. What do you think about my chances?

I don’t usually do chances, but will say this…

3.5 is a bit low for NYU unless you’re applying ED, although you have had a tough courseload with 8 APs. SATs are good. Judging from a quick look at your other posts, you’re thinking of applying to a lot of top schools. Make sure you put some matches and safeties on your list that you like and can afford.

There are some threads in the Parents forum with admission results for those with GPAs in various ranges (don’t remember the exact names - 3.3 - 3.5 for example). U Chicago has admitted some students with similar GPA, good SATs and great ECs like yours.

If I were you, I would use this summer to capitalize on one of your passions (your current ECs) and do something extraordinary. Best of luck to you!

legacy get application fee waived-- that’s about it

You are not applying to the School of Medicine. For that, you need to have completed your undergrad studies with premed requirements and have an MCAT test of about 30+ at minimum.

You are most likely talking to the College of Art and Sciences (CAS) with a Biology major and fulfilling the Pre-med requirements.

Now, if you want to be part of NYU fencing team, you better talk to Coach Mormando about your skills. He can help (not hurt) your chances, particularly if your are doing ED.
