If my Grandfather went to University of Michigan for a Masters. Am I considered a legacy(applying for undergraduate)? Does Umich even care about legacy?

Michigan does not place much weight on legacy, unless it is your mother or father, and they are donating a lot of money to the University, in which case, legacy could help a little.

@Alexandre legacy is a big deal, you are far off

Legacy makes no difference here.

goblue100, I have not seen evidence of legacy counting for much. Even when Michigan used an actual formula for admissions, legacy was afforded only a handful of points (4 I believe) compared to 80 points for GPA, 20 point for race, 12 points for standardized test scores, etc… Legacy has never mattered much. I have seen many qualified applicants with legacy status get rejected over the years.

It is considered but I don’t know how big a impact.
