I have heard different things from different people, but how much does being a legacy really help your chances of being accepted? My mom, dad, and sister have all graduated from Penn and I am considering applying early decision. I know it is a very competitive school to be accepted admission into, and I’m not that kid on college confidential with an A+ in every single one of their honor and AP classes who is fluent in Chinese and Arabic and found the cure to cancer in their free time while also solving world hunger. That being said, I have decent grades at one of the top schools in the nation, am an athlete, and I am latino(I do a lot of other stuff too this is just some background). I don’t want to waste my early decision card on Penn if there is not a good chance of being accepted. I know I have not given enough information for you all to “chance me”, but if you know how far being a legacy applying ED can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y’all!
Penn selects more than 1/2 the class in the ED round. Legacy is considered in ED. What are your SAT/ACT scores?
I think being a legacy improves your chances, especially when you apply for ED, but not sure how much;/
“Children and grandchildren of alumni will receive the most consideration for their affiliation with the University during Early Decision.”
from Penn’s website
Legacy is a huge advantage: http://thepenngazette.com/five-is-four-cs-%E2%80%A8and-the-right-road-to-college/
But it’s only an advantage in ED. The acceptance rate for legacies during the ED round is in the mid to high 40s. Don’t waste the opportunity to apply ED to Penn as a legacy on some other school if Penn is your top choice. The odds are SO MUCH better at Penn during ED as a legacy than they would be at any other comparable college without legacy
