Legacy

I have a grandfather that attended Harvard (parents attended other schools unfortunately) – but there’s no place to put legacy on the Harvard application? I have good stats (2310 sat, 800s on sat 2s, 4.0 gpa, good ECs) so it probably wouldn’t make or break my application, but I heard that Harvard does care about legacy.

Thanks CC!

I don’t believe you will be considered as a legacy applicant even if you did indicate that your granddad went, since ur parents didn’t go

Sorry, H only considers as legacies the sons and daughters of those who attended H College.

Yes, they only consider you a legacy if your parents attended the College and they get this info from the Common App where you list information about your parents. That being said, if there’s a way to casually mention your grandfather having attended then I personally would do it. There appears to be a very slight boost that goes to siblings and it may apply to other relatives as well, especially grandparents. Good luck!
