I'm just curious--would I count as a legacy at Harvard? Two of my grandfathers went there, as did my great-grandfather, and my great-grandmother went to Rancliffe before Harvard admitted women. My mum didn't go, and neither did my dad. I'm only in eighth grade, and I'm usually on the prep school forum, but it came up and I was wondering.

My first response is: PLEASE DON'T WORRY ABOUT COLLEGE FOR AT LEAST THREE MORE YEARS! I understand if you're curious, but trust me when I say that worrying about college is stressful enough that there's no point in thinking about it before you have to.

My second answer is: As the application only asks for the colleges that your parents attended, it's fully possible that no one in the admissions office will know about your grandparents. There are spaces on the application where you can add additional infomation, but to tell you the truth, I sincerely doubt it will make a significant difference. Even people whose parents attended Harvard don't get much of an advantage, and from what I've heard, they really don't give any special consideration to grandchildren (it has to do with the aim of legacies, which is to encourage school loyalty among other things).

Still- too early to be thinking about college, kitty. Really.

Thanks. I figured it probably wouldn't matter, but you never know. If I apply to Harvard, I'll probably put it down, just in case.
Don't worry, though. I'm concerned with prep schools right now. College is so far away.
