My daughter has applied to Yale. She is a premed major and took all the hardest classes, done alot of volunteer and held leadership positions in them. She has the following:

spanish with listening 790
literature:680
us history 660
sat critical reading 710
writing 690
math 590

she has a gpa of 4.3 with honors and ap classes. All 4 years solid grades and hard classes. she is an ap scholar and will graduate with california gold seal and csf seal.

She is esl student as Spanish was her first language. So yes we are Latino/Cuban from her dad's side.

Her great grandfather was a tenured professor in art at Yale and was originally a student. what are her chances?

what are her other stats?

ummm math 590 no sorry rejected

i thought the math was too low. She took all honors and ap classes that were offered has a solid academic background with 4 yrs solid courses, science, math foreign language, math, history etc.
Her volunteering she has been a hospital volunteer and was promoted to a board position there. She also held a leadership position at a school where she was in charge of all the voluteers. she also is graduating with honors and gold seal bearer in California.

mallomar -- i happen to know somone who get into harvard with a 570 in the writing section

I got into Yale with a 630 on the math section (800s in the other two though), so a low score in one section isn't an auto-reject. I retook the SAT after I applied early and raised it to a 710, but that wasn't till after I was accepted. It's too bad she couldn't try retaking it, but oh well! She's done everything she can and now it's just a waiting game. Good luck.
