Legacy?

I was wondering if

a) this counts as 'legacy' (my father recieved his PH.D here)

b) does it help at U of C?

Thanks.

A. Yes.
B. It probably helps to a degree, especially in the category of expressing interest. Legacy matters much less at the U of C than it does at Yale or Notre Dame or many other top schools. You do get the application fee waived, though.

Libby mentioned that they may actually hold legacy applicants to a somewhat higher standard since they should know more about the school and its mission. But if one get do that, especially in the why Chicago essay, I believe it might help.

Thanks everyone.
