Legacy

all right i know legacy doesn't even matter much anymore... but i wanted to know if this helps

my first cousin (same last name) went to UPENN
normally cousins going don't really matter but the catch is that he was Valedictorian of penn... im sure that has to count for something?

so anyway i put him down for legacy anyway and wrote about him in my essay as an influence
do you think this will help?

I think legacies will only be considered if you apply ED (at least for Penn).

No. (10char)

cousin doesn't count as a legacy. penn considers only immediate family (parents/grandparents) legacy. i know. my cousin goes to wharton and i couldn't put it on my app.

I put my mother's brother as part of my legacy thing and it worked out well. He may not have been considered, but it didn't hurt to put him.

Penn states very clearly that legacy status is considered if parents and grandparents attended and only if you apply ED. It may not hurt you but won't help you. However, if a Penn application reader gets annoyed by the fact that you don't understand instruction, then he/she can put you on the rejection pile.

according to the alumni website, it is still counted RD, but not as heavily.

lol "Penn states very clearly that..." haha i had to read the 4 times before i realized you werent talking about penn state
