how much does having both a father and grandfather who went to penn help ED?

quite a lot....almost doubles your chances...but RD it doesn't really help

What about great-grandfather, grandfather, mother?

My understanding is that a legacy is a legacy, there were no bonus points for double, triple and quadruple. Would be sweet, though...

I think broetchen is right when s/he said that there is no bonus for having more then one family member that went to Penn

The real bonus is if one of them did something notable or donated a large amount of money.

Does legacy here have more weight than at other schools, or is it about the same?

i think having double legacy does hold more weight, because they ask on the app if you have a parent OR grandparent who is a penn alumnus

Is legacy more of an advantage at penn than at other schools, or is it about the same?

They ask parent or grandparent, because either one qualifies as legacy. Penn is generous in that regard, as well as giving maximum latitude as to what school they may have attended. I.e. grad school, law, undergrad, med, dental, vet, nursing etc. all count. Legacy is definitely more of an advantage at Penn, especially for ED. I was told it is considered in RD, but even more considered ED. (hoping this doesn't change with Stetson's departure!)

They say it doesn't matter how much of a legacy you have, but you probably get more from more relatives.

What if i had an uncle that donated 2 million dollars to penn and his grandparents built the library?

HAHA.

Props to 1281948 for that remark.

It seems then that he would be "owning" a fraction of the school.

Well those people do indeed exist and go here...

Anyway, legacy definitely helps a lot if you apply ED, and hardly counts if you apply RD. Almost all (or perhaps all?) the legacies I know here applied early. Then again, it seems like most people I know applied early...

Legacy definitely helps as well as donating money to the school. One of my friends has 5 alumni at the school and donates scholarships to the school.

that was no joke. I have decent grades, but no where near close enough to be admitted to penn without anything helping me. My Uncle's entire family goes there and they have donated a LOT of money.
