does it matter if a sibling attended a college, or only parents?

I think its only parent

what about grandparent?

Most colleges define legacy as the parents. They also restrict legacy definition to the undergrad part of the school, not the grad, law, med, prof, night schools. However, there are colleges that do include grandparents, other parts of the college. Haven't heard of siblings, as a legacy category, but many colleges do take it into account if a sibling has gone or is in the school. I know that if you are going out of geographics, it is a plus to have a sibling at the school, as it lets the school know that the family and student has some familiarity with the school, and ups the chances that the kid will go there. For the very top schools, there has been a push to limit legacy, so it does not seem to count as much.
