If you have a legacy at Brown, is it most helpful to apply ED? Or does the adcom take legacies into account for RD?

Thanks!

It has been my experience that legacy applicants do much better in the long run if they express their love of Brown by applying ED.

Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out. I'm a legacy who applied ED, and I was deferred, then waitlisted. It could work out still for me, but you should be prepared to face disappointment, especially since your class (I'm assuming you're an 06er) is going to have the most competitive pool EVER, worse than ours. It goes back down w/ the 07ers, darn those lucky sophomores.

I'm a legacy and I applied and got in RD. According to stories that I have heard from other legacies, I think Brown tends to defer most legacies who apply ED, and then most get accepted RD.

btw, 06ers will not be harder, the 05 year was written about last year as def going to be the hardest due to the sheer number of applicants thanks to the baby boomer generation. 06 will be more like 04.

Thanks for the info!

There's a bar graph hanging in my college counselor's office numbering the prospective amount of applicants for each school year. The highest bar is that for 2005-2006. Either way, it's still going to be a difficult thing, whether the admit rate is 15% or 17% as it was in 2004. Brown is an amazing place, and you may very well get in, but be sure to have some other schools that you like in mind.

MalachiteFalcon,

How do you figure? I am a 07'er and I want to know why you think my class is less competitive?

Does anyone know who Brown counts as legacies? Is it just parents?

Just parents.

But Brown also considers the "burning for Brown" factor. So maybe if you have siblings at Brown, they'll think you'll be more likely to attend and therefore you'll be admitted?

killaerone, the class of 07 will be less competitive because the number will be less, it won't be that significant, it's just that this year was the peak caused by the aging of the baby boomer generation, it will probly dcrease with a similar trend to how it increased, thus the class of 07 will be like the class of 03.

can someone provide links to proof of class competitiveness

It's really hard to speculate at "class competitiveness." Even if you know the number of kids in the high school class of 2006, you don't know how many kids are planning on applying to competitive schools. Who knows? It's possible that the total graduation class size decreases but that Brown sees another 10% increase in apps.... Well, let's hope not! I really like you juniors, and I want you to get in everywhere. :)
