Legacy??

How much weight does being the daughter an undergrad alumni and the sister of a grad school student (who will graduate with a masters the month before I graduate high school) carry legacy-wise??

Thanks

definitely helps to be legacy, but there really is no answer for how much it plays in admissions. as for scholarships, there is a small scholarship you can apply for as an accepted legacy, but i don’t think it’s much. i don’t think Pitt awards scholarship for just being a legacy applicant either.

My daughter, niece and nephew are all either current Pitt students or accepted students and are the children of Pitt grads…they have not received a nickel. Anybody have a link to the “Legacy” scholarship?

[Pitt Alumni Association](http://www.alumni.pitt.edu/scholarships/)

I found this.

Thanks

DonnaMom, (or anyone else), do you know if you can get more than one of these scholarships at a time? Because two of the tops ones are pretty much the same, but I would meet both requirements??

Thanks DonnaMom! Strange how a student must meet “scholarship eligibility criteria” to be sent a “legacy” scholarship application. You would think based on the description of terms for these scholarships that just being a “legacy” would be enough to receive at least an application for some of them. Evidently not… no applications for three students over the last four years…

My son is not a legacy so I can’t answer your questions. Just came across the page while I was looking for something,

At least you found a link. That’s better than I did. Thanks.

Not too surprising but the brain surgeons at the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA) didn’t know anything about an Alumni scholarship. Of course this was after my wife (a Pitt alum) was transferred within the OAFA repeatedly while they attempted to find someone with some knowledge. Makes you wonder what other scholarships students might be eligible for which “the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA) will automatically” send applications.

From the Pitt website:
“Incoming students that meet scholarship eligibility criteria as designated by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA) will automatically be sent applications for this award.”
