I have my English name as "First Name" on all the SAT's/AP's and school record. But only my Chinese name shows up on the Birth Certificate or Passport. Should I just put English name as "First Name" on college apps and the Chinese Name as "Middle Name" so that the collegebroad score-sending process and school record doesnt get mixed up? Would that be acceptable?

Just use your english name only. There is no need to add a middle name. Just be SURE that everything you send in has exactly the same name, address, etc.

You may run into some problems if you don't report your legal name.
Not sure how you'd go about reporting it, but don't most apps ask if you've ever reported your name (ie to collegeboard) as something else.

bump.............

Take it from me, if you use a DIFFERENT name from the one the the school knows you as, or if it is different from the name on your SAT scores or the name on your application, you take the chance that multiiple files will be started in the admissions offices- one for each diffferent name on the documents sent in, even if the address, name of schools is the same, they will open up a different file because the name is different.. All documents that are received in admissions office are filed mostly by students, and errors can easily happen. It happened to my son, when his transcript was put in a file under one name, his application in another, and the error wasn't caught until after the deadline for Early admission. So what ever name you use, make sure it is the one the Collegeboard already has. And remember, it is up to you as he applicant to verify that all documents necessary for admissions consideration have been received and are in your file.

I was able to change my school/SAT names to my legal name. The AP Program wouldn't let me but they added a memo-type thing that said my legal name was _____. AP scores aren't that important anyways. I used my legal name for college applications, and most of them also allow you to write any nicknames you've used.

I would advise using your legal name more often in the future as it prevents these little annoyances or changing your legal name (though I believe that's a very long and tedious process for minors).

Hope this helps

My son used a suffix after his last name on his application at one school. That's might explain why his SAT scores haven't been "received" - they're probably sitting in another file. Guess we'll have to call.

I agree with the advice to use our legal name in the future. But don't try to change you name in the middle of the college application process. The problem with my son started when he received his drivers license, which of course gives his full name as it appears on his birth certificate. Then when filling out his applications he thought he should entered his full name, as it appears on his DL, not realising what would happen once his applications were received at the admissions offices, where they were not matched with his transcripts, letters of recommendations or SAT scores.
