legal temp. resident; i can't get any financial aid.. ):

I'm a temp. legal resident, which means I don't meet the requirements for FAFSA. Is there any way I can get at least some financial aid?? ):

Check your state guidelines. I believe some states will give you some aid. BUT you are not eligible for any federally funded need based aid. It would have to be state funded or institutional funding.

What state are you in? A few states give aid.

What are your stats? Some schools will give merit scholarships for int’ls and non green card residents.

im in georgia.

act 33 - math 34, english 34
gpa unwieghted is 3.9
sat2 760 in bio 740 in math 2

i can waiver into in-state resident tuition fee, but if i do that, i can’t apply for int’l scholarships.

Does UGa or GT give big int’l merit scholarships? If they do, are they bigger than the OOS portion of tuition?

edited to add…from GT website:

*For any student classified as “international” for tuition classification, they are ineligible for Financial Aid through the Georgia Tech Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Please understand that being a public institution includes an obligation to use the financial aid we have available to the domestic population. *

So, if you’re interested in GT, your chances are better with the waiver since they don’t give $$ to int’ls. If that is their policy, it’s doubtfull that other GA publics have a different policy.

i’m not applying to GT. i’m a die-hard uga fan as you can tell (:

i’ll see if int’l merit scholarships are bigger but i doubt it. i’ll be paying 7,000 a semester (including room, food, tuition, etc.) which isn’t that bad… right?

If GT doesn’t give merit to int’ls, then I doubt UGa does either.

So, you’re best to apply as a resident and pay in-state rates. If you haven’t missed the deadlines, maybe UGa will give you a resident merit scholarship (unless your int’l status prevents such).

BTW…isn’t the COA for in-state students higher than $7k per semester? Maybe I’m wrong.

edited to add…

I think the COA is at least $9k per semester for in-state.

what is coa…?

COA = Cost Of Attendance.

^^^

Yes. sorry. The COA includes tuition, college fees, course fees, housing, meals, books, transportation, misc expenses.

yes COA is above 7k, but they promised me a 7k per semester if i get waiver in accordance to my stats.
is 7k not that bad for uga?

That’s a good price. What do you mean that they “promised you” $7k per semester? They can only assure you that you’ll get in-state rates, they can’t promise a total cost. They don’t even know what the rates will be for the 2010-1011 school year or for the years afterwards for tuition, housing, meals, etc. They couldn’t have promised a COA to you.
