Isn't it about time?

Yes.

This and all the other stupid things that are much worse illegal than legal. You already know most everything I put in that group.

That reminds me… When Germany’s federal employment centers started carrying job listings for prostitutes a couple of years ago, it led to a public outrage. (I think that’s still an option, but now the job seeker has to broach the topic. The placement officers may not suggest prostitution as a career path anymore.)

I’m morally against prostitution, but even I’m 100% for legalization.

Tax it as any other job would be and regulate it to decrease risk of std’s.

^ And decrease the risk of violence. Right now when prostitutes go to the police and say that they’ve been assaulted/raped, they are often ignored because they “had it coming”, etc. It’s sickening. If it’s a legal and regulated business, this would hopefully decrease dramatically.

It would most certainly propel the economy, lol.

but then the town’s seedy underbelly just wouldn’t have the same mystique

Just like anti-prop19ers, there’s gonna be a lot of angry people if this happens, but yes, this would be a wonderful idea and would lower crime

Certainly there is demand for prosotitutes, as witnessed by the “adult services” section of Craigslist but I would oppose its legalization. This seems like something that would destroy many marriages and I think that while the STD risk for individuals will decrease, the aggregate risk would increase since it would be seen as more acceptable and more people wold engage in these behaviors. Look at the issues faced by Nevada. I think pornography is bad enough.

Lol, Indian, if someone’s looking for a prostitute, the marriage is over anyway. Legalization isn’t going to change that.

I find the idea of a prostitute unsavory and someone who uses one even more disgusting, but it seems legalization is the lesser of two evils.

We’re all prostitutes in some form, pinkcup.

True. I guess it’s just an emotional reaction to it.

If you mean having a job, then sure.

If you mean typical dating, eh. Even if the guy pays for dinner, the girl still WANTS to have sex. Not the case in prostitution.

See the only point of sex outside of physical pleasure (you can masturbate or use sex toys for that) is an emotional connection and/ or more likely, validation, prostitution is basically a delusion. There is no validation from a girl pretending to like you or find you attractive. Hence, the delusional nature and transactional nature bothers me.

I may do some menial tasks at work I don’t like for money to some degree, but I’m not going to let some one beat me with a bat for money, or take a dump on my kitchen table for money, etc. It just seems sad.

The “transactional nature” bothers you? Welcome to capitalism bro.

I don’t see any difference between a prostitute and an employee of Goldman Sachs or McDonald’s.

Nor do I, as long as she’s doing it voluntarily.

I’m all for legalization with strict regulation. Those counties in Nevada have the right idea.

Uh, I’m not a bro, dude.

And, I do see a difference. It’s not as pathetic for the prostitute as it is for the customer. Why don’t you buy people who will pretend to be your “friends” or be a live-in girlfriend?

I’ll always disagree, but I know there’s people who won’t see a problem with it.

You don’t see a problem with 50 and 60 year old men paying for 17 and 18 year olds in Thailand because its a poor country? Eh, of course the girls are willing and they benefit, but both parties seem pathetic to me.

I’m all for it being legalized, because it will reduce harm and increase regulation (like keeping underage girls out, reducing violence, and monitoring STDs).

But, it will never be agreeable to me. It takes a degree of awareness that I know some people just don’t have.

The funny thing is, pornography for profit is legal. The actors are both paid to have sex…

The government can accomplish safer prostitution by regulating the industry, and push through STD testing that occurs in the pornography industry. There would be increased tax revenue, decreased crime (no pimps looking to hurt non payers) and create a safer environment. I am personally morally opposed to prostitution, but I am not the one that lives a morally questionable lifestyle if a stranger chooses to profit from selling themselves.

Also, by prostitution I am referring only to two consenting adults entering into an agreement, not sex slaves or kidnapped women.

I don’t think prostitution should be legal because then if you want to have sex but your girlfriend or wife doesn’t they will just tell you to have sex with a prostitute and that is a little strange.

@yea- No, a woman is not going to tell their boy to go get a prostitute.

Wow, people are a lot more unreasonable and delusional about this topic than I thought they’d be. Interesting. I thought a topic that could unite tiff and I could appeal to almost anyone lol.

I think the reason people oppose legalization is that they don’t see it as a big problem, and since it’s somewhat unsavory it’s comforting to have it be illegal. Same goes for marijuana.
