how hardcore is the selection process? I just sent in my app and am wondering what to expect.

Well I applied to be Senator Feinstein's (d-CA) page during the summer and was gratned an interview but was ultimately rejected. I tried to apply through my Congressman Dennis Cardova but he was not able to nominate. I spoke to Speaker Pelosi's office and thy said she only nominates kids from Frisco. I think the hardest part is getting an application and the selection process too is pretty hard- since it usually goes to a donor's kid ect. ect. You are competing more so with kids with connections, than you are with kids with impressive resume's. ( Only a B average required ect. ect.)
Google in Congressional Page and it should take you to the House Page alumni website, which might be a lot of help.
good luck!

thanks. i'm from oklahoma so my situation is probably relatively different from yours. anyone else have other insight?

There is someone on CC who was a congressional page. I'll try to find the name and I'll post it here. I PM'd him with a few questions and it seemed that he had a great time.

The money isn't too bad either, ;)

Are you planning to go during the summer, fall, or winter?

I was a House page if you have any questions!

do you guys have any idea about what comes next after the paper application/when i will be notified of my status?

Selection is very hard. I was a page last semester and my workboss said 3,000 kids applied, and only 64 got in. Most of he kids thier are intelligent, very interested in politics, but did not have connections whatsoever. Althogh, there are a few kids whose mommies and daddies can pull some strings.

Each congressional office handle's the page applications a different way. My congresswoman didn't even let me know she nominated me and when the page school called to interview me i was surprised. Some congressional offices require an interview.

Also, the House is more prestigious than the Senate.

One of my friends just lost the position at the state level, unfortunately. She would have been a great candidate.

Make sure the deadline hasn't passed, it may very well have done so already.

Prankityclankity: how would the House program be more "prestigious" than the Senate program? I would assume since there are only around 30 spots on the Senate each session, as opposed to around 70 spots for the House each session, that the Senate side would be more "prestigious". Anyways, I would say they're both equally prestigious since there are only so many spots with competition from around the country.

And to the OP, the competition varies from district to district. I heard of some district where dozens of kids applied, where in some districts the representative actually had to look for a student to sponsor. Good luck to you though.

i think my district might be sorta barren, because there was a kid from my high school who did it a few years ago and i think i'm more academically qualifed than he was. i already turned my app in, and no, the deadline has not yet passed.

Which session are you applying for?

BTW, are you applying as a US congressional page, or for your state, your county, etc.?

US house...i'm doing the summer one

Ok. You might find this website helpful.

Because Senate program is more of the "connected" pogram and a lot more people apply to the House.

During the summer there were a lot more kids with connections than during the school year (at least, so says my former boss lol)

^^ Yes, when I was going up the elavator from the sub-basement of the capitol, Congessmen were talking about thier kids being pages, and they were all pages in the summer. Anyone related to a congressman has to apply in the summer. That's why it asks you if you are on the application.

connections are everything in life my friend

Does anyone know how and when the selected pages for the summer session are notified of their appointment?

Well, I just recieved notification of my appointment today! An aid to my congressman called my house this afternoon. And regarding connections, I most certainly did not have any.

i ended up withdrawing mine, but when i did it was in pelosi's office, so i at least got past the state cut off.
