Lehigh Greek Scene

I have committed to Lehigh for the college of health and am looking forward to attending. I am looking at joining greek life but have my reservations. For some context, im a pretty social half asian guy, pretty laid back and just go with the flow. Wondering if any members of the Lehigh community could give me some insight on the pledge process and the difficulty in joining a frat. Also is it normal to see a person of color in a frat at Lehigh?

Congratulations, Lehigh is a great school and the new college of health seems like an exciting place to be.

I am not sure where Lehigh’s Greek System stands right now…it was all suspended in January, and with covid-19, not sure the current status. Check out the student newspaper for info, and you could reach out to student affairs and/or the Interfraternity Council with your questions. Hopefully a current student will weigh in as well.

Good luck this fall!

Yeah, after some incidents they suspended all greek life. It seems that if they do allow it again in the future, it will be changed. Before the ban, they had recently tried to make greek life better by encouraging/forcing frats and sororities to hold non-alcohol events and do community service projects (I believe each frat/sor. had to do some project every other year that did something good for the Lehigh community to stay as a frat/sor, like giving out free donuts one day to any students that walk by a table on the front lawn). It seems that if they do reinstate greek life, they will even further enforce new rules to “fix” greek life, which could make it better and more enjoyable for you. In terms of pledging, I think that before the ban it was a pretty standard fraternity hazing sort of thing, but that could definitely change if they reinstate it.

When I attended Lehigh back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, there were definitely men of color in fraternities. And from photos I’ve seen on FB, some of these same guys are definitely regulars at the Leh-Laf tailgate circuit!

Sororities never have alcohol at official events, and always do philanthropic work.

any info on Lehigh after dark?
