So, I really really like Lehigh. I can picture myself going there, my stats are on par, and everything looks great. However, I want to study Finance and hopefully land an Investment Banking job in NYC. Does Lehigh place well? I've heard awesome things about the Accounting program but nothing about the Finance program. Compared to Boston College? Thanks everyone!

The Perella Department of Finance, the only named department within Lehigh University, offers courses that contribute to the programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees.

From the undergraduate major in finance to the MBA concentration in finance, and the cross disciplinary MS in Analytical Finance, program integration on the college and university levels is a key element to our areas of study.

The “Lehigh Finance” experience is further heightened by drawing on an expert and experienced faculty, state of the art Financial Services Lab, managed investment portfolios (Thompson International, student run portfolios) which provide real world experiences, student investment club, and other unique assets. A critical factor in our advancement of “Lehigh Finance” is our Board of Advisors, which helps us to tailor our program to the marketplace. We encourage you to explore the various webpage links and see for yourself that “Lehigh Finance” is definitely on the move.

Now to answer your question,

While 66% of all majors found jobs after their graduation in 2011, 86% of those in the School of Business and Economics found full time employment. The latter includes finance majors. Only 8% of the graduates from the School of Business and Economics continue schooling. In this light, it’s safe to assume that almost all grads are able to do WHAT THEY WANT post-grad.

For the 86% that did obtain full time employment, the average starting salary (of finance majors) was $61,283. These are, therefore, not only jobs but good jobs.

I would go through this list for you and find the investment banking firms / opportunities but I am starting to get evil looks in class. So, here’s the unabridged list:

Thanks for such an in depth reply! Is Lehigh cut throat?

My son is an Engineering Major and in a Fraternity. This summer we took the bus (that’s station is a mere 3 blocks from the bookstore) to NYC. We walked around Wall Street and he kept pointing out the companies where his friends were working! And Lehigh grads are very anxious and willing to help Lehigh students!
