I’m an international student (Asian) who got in Lehigh University and UW and am intending to major in electrical engineering. I’m having difficulty choosing between the two schools so it’d be much appreciated if anyone can provide any suggestions regarding any aspects of the schools (reputation, opportunities, activities, location, dining, housing, endowment, etc…). thx!
the question is if you were offered Direct Transfer into engineering at UW. Even if you are offered general admission to UW, unless you were guareented transfer into your program there is no knowing that you’ll be able to study what you want at UW.
Given that you got admitted directly into both, I would say UW. Seattle just has so much more opportunities if you are thinking about getting a job after you major, an internship, or stuff like that since there’s a ton of tech firms in and near Seattle. As for the actual school, both are competitive and provide great education. Also, despite being a public school, UW has a huge endowment and the engineering program definitely has a lot of money at their disposal. I have a friend who went to Lehigh and majored in mechanical. He now works in Boeing, in Everett (which is north of Seattle). I just remember him saying that he didn’t like Bethlehem (Lehigh’s location). He enjoys the Seattle area a lot more, although this is probably because he skis a lot and the slopes near Seattle and in the West coast are superior to anything in the East coast.
Finally, I’m not sure how important the demographics of the city are to you, but Seattle has a pretty large Asian population with a China town and stuff like that. UW also has a lot of Asian students so you might feel more comfortable around people with a similar culture to yours’. But if you want to try something new, then Lehigh might be better.
I live in Seattle but I have also been in Bethlehem (though I obviously know a lot more about Seattle). I’m also probably bias towards Seattle in this post, since its such a great city
Thx guys!! @NotABonobo @cercit20
