Lehigh versus GWU (from WashU)

I'm transferring from WashU and would love some input on which one I should transfer to: Lehigh or GW. If people from those schools could respond (or anyone with relevant information, links, etc.) that would be amazing.

Some facts about myself:
*Business Major/Psychology Minor
*Involved in Greek Life (Alpha Phi)
*Jewish
*Female
*Love building relationships with people (professors included) - I'm a human resources major...
*Prefer homework and (group) projects to exams

Areas I'd love to know about:
*Campus life (Food, activities, the greek system, etc.)
*Academics (business mostly)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Why are you looking to transfer from Wash to these schools if you're unsure of the campus life? It's a lateral transfer and a downgrade academically from Wash to Lehigh and Wash to GW, respectively.

Obviously I'm transferring because I was unhappy at WashU. The reputation doesn't matter to me anymore. I learned the hard way that just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean that it's the right fit.

I may be downgrading societally but that's purely because there weren't any other schools (northwestern, tufts, emory) of the same caliber that were different enough from WashU for me to foresee happiness there.

I need a school where I'm not constantly in the library, don't have to deal with professor politics at a research institution (because professors have WAY too much power in giving out grades at WashU - it's practically arbitrary at times), and somewhere I can have a good time whenever I want to (instead of waiting for the one weekend where there's actually a good party going on only to find that I have an exam the following week).

...I didn't really want to get into this. Obviously I'm a little bitter about waisting two precious college years.

Now I want to enjoy myself, both learning and socializing.

So which is it? Lehigh or GW?

Is there anyone that can offer advice?

treschic: Hope I can help...My D had all three schools on her radar, but isn't attending any of them....Based on your needs, IMO GW probably fulfills more of your requirements......Lehigh's business school is great, but focused more on accounting and finance....socially, it is a frat-based campus and although there are other cultural and extracurricular activities, frats rule....

GW is, I think, more balanced...and you always have DC right there if you just need a break.....

Your impressions of Wash U, incidently, while very different than many on CC were exactly what led my D to eliminate it from contention in her process....I didn't see what she saw, but she was adamant.......We definitely did not agree on this one......

Be careful because schools that society considers a downgrade are not necessarily easier. For example, I transferred from Loyola University Chicago where my GPA was 3.8 to Northwestern where's it's now 3.9; and my courses at Loyola were 100 and 200-level, whereas at Northwestern, they've been all 300-level (as a transfer, I maxed out on the 200-level courses I could take).

rodney: If I may ask, where is your D going? And also I'm already involved in a sorority that's offered at both schools - and from what I hear, it's a pretty good one at Lehigh - and I'm wondering, with that factored in, how that might change your opinion (if at all)?

stay in WashU for one more year and transfer to Rice. It's not a downgrade and people can't stop talking about how great of a life you'll have there. Think about it.

My S has friends at both Lehigh and GWU. They are both very happy, however these two schools are very different. GW has virtually no campus and is living in the city, Lehigh is a campus school in a more rural location. What sort of college life are you looking for?

I don't go to Lehigh, but I live very close to it. It's a beautiful area, and (with all due respect Lily), not really rural, but more suburban. I love living in the valley, and really hate the thought of leaving. I think you'd like it here. People are really down to earth, and the campus is beautiful. You won't have the same problems you're having at WashU at Lehigh.

I don't know much about GWU.

treschic: I PM'd you

it is impossible to have more fun then at GW, if that is what you are looking for
