any thoughts?

I think it depends on what area of study you’re looking to go for. If you’re a prospective business or engineering major, Lehigh would be the best choice of the three. I don’t know that much about the other schools except that they are thought highly of, but I have the impression that their biggest value lies in their liberal arts programs…

What are you looking to go into?

I have one son who graduated from Hamilton several years ago and a second son who will be attending Lehigh’s engineering school next fall. I also visted Colgate with both sons. I pretty much agree with mdnijpn if you are a prospective engineering major. He’s probably correct if you’re interested in business also but I work for a major corporation and we look for the best and the brightest. Thus, I think a large financial institution is likely to be more interested in a top student from a liberal arts school than a student who went to a lesser school but focused on business courses. Lehigh is certainly not a “lesser” business school so if that’s your interest I’d suggest that you choose Lehigh from the three. If you’re not sure and leaning towards liberal arts I know Hamilton would be a great choice. The classes are small and my son thrived there. He got a great education. While I’m less familiar with Colgate, it too has a great reputation. Both Hamilton and Colgate are in pretty rural areas so that has to be something that you like. Both campuses are beautiful with a lot of activities. I haven’t said much about Lehigh but that’s only because my son isn’t a student there yet. We were, however, very impressed by the school and in particular by the engineering school. If that is your interest I strongly suggest that you take the special tour geared towards the engineering college. I think that while all three schools are not on the ivy level they are all very well respected and all have well placed alumni. The bottom line is that if you do well at any of these schools you will still have all doors open to you.

thanks for your comments
