I am debating whether to go to Lehigh or George Washington University. I'm not sure which one is better overall. I plan on majoring in Political Science and Economics or Economics and Finance. With that, I know I will eventually change my major all together so which college would be the best fit for that also. Academic, social, financial wise - which college would be better?

Price (According to NPC on College Board)
-Lehigh - $11000 (I have to pay)
-GWU - $17000 (I have to pay)

Location
-Lehigh - Bethlehem (suburb)
-GWU - Washington D.C. (city)

If I were majoring in science or engineering I’d pick Lehigh. If I were interested in Poli Sci or economics etc. I think GWU is a better choice.
In any case, I would prefer to live in D.C. rather than Bethlehem.
But I can’t tell you which one fits you better…

If you are happy with an urban school and can afford it, DC is a great place to live and study. Decent weather most of the year, lots of internship opportunities and faculty who are well-connected. Unless you are keen on living in PA, I can’t see the advantage Lehigh would provide (other than on cost).

Both are really good schools. A lot would depend on where you want to live and what type of campus experience you are looking for. I would probably give the nod to GW --if you are interested in poly sci and hope to get internship experience, then DC would be a great location. However, if you want a more traditional campus with sports etc. or if finances are a major consideration (looking at your numbers above) , then Lehigh might be the better choice. Spend time at both schools and see where you feel most comfortable. No bad answer here.

For politics, GW is the clear winner for academics. Their department is quite good. But if you’re unsure of your major, then neither school is really ahead of the other.

I was at the open house today for Lehigh and I went to the discussion by the dean of the College of Business and Economics… I was really impressed by the dean’s speech as well as the finance professor’s speech.

They seem to stress that the CBE is strongest in finance and accounting. Just something to keep in mind.
