Lehigh vs Lafayette vs Bucknell flexibility/ engineering

I am interested in Lehigh, Lafayette and Bucknell. Most likely, I will end up in engineering but the truth is that I am not totally sure that I want to be an engineer because there are other subjects I also like. I would like to have some flexibility at least in my first year to experiment and maybe change my major if necessary. I am wondering how easy it is at each of the schools to experiment in different areas and change majors if necessary? Also, would welcome any insight into the engineering programs at any of the three. It’s hard to differentiate.

I think it’s easier to try engineering first and then switch to something else if you don’t like engineering. If you spend a year experimenting, it’s going to be hard to keep up with the engineering sequence and all the prereqs.

Lafayette, for example, says exactly that on their website:

Since they seem to be particularly attuned to your dilemma, that’s where I would go if I were in your shoes.

Lehigh doesn’t expect engineering students to pick a specific major until March. Changing majors is easy, plus they have quite a few interdisciplinary programs. It’s one of the few places we visited where many of the engineering students did minors. That means there’s some flexibility in the curriculum.

As @Bill_Marsh said, engineering is very cumulative. It’s easier to switch out than it is to switch in.
