Lehigh vs. Providence honors program

I was accepted to both Lehigh University and Providence College and am torn between them. For Providence College, I was invited into the honors program with a 60% tuition scholarship whereas at Lehigh I was accepted and offered $0 for merit and did not qualify for need based aid so therefore Lehigh would cost about $20,000 more per year for me. I am however also asking Lehigh to reconsider my application for financial aid. Is it better to go to Lehigh or Providence's honors college?

Hi Annieo2012,

My son is in the same exact boat with two other schools where he was offered $20K or more in scholarships. Lehigh was his first choice by far, but we can’t afford it without FA help. He was also offered very little aid from Lehigh and we asked Lehigh to “review” his FA award. We included the letters from the other schools and they said they can’t do anything more. For them to re-consider, something big has to occur, like losing a job. Good luck though, you never know.

I think you have to do what makes sense for you personally, professionally and for your family financially. No one can answer these questions for you.

Ask yourself, will I be happy at PC?

What is PC’s ROI and job placement compared to Lehigh?

If you will not feel good there and if after 4 years may not find a job, then the 80 grand is worth paying to be assured of great ROI and job placement. However, if the difference are not that great, then it is not.

Good luck and congratulations on having great choices!
