Specifically, chemical engineering. I'm applying to all four of these schools and I know that they all have decent engineering programs. I'm basically looking for a ranking of best to worst out of these schools. If i was accepted to all four, which one should I pick (based on the engineering reputation and job outlook alone)?

Don’t worry about it now. Wait until if/when you get accepted. You might be accepted to all of them, you might be accepted to just 2.

You’ll have an easier decision then - all have good engineering programs.

Money could also play a factor in the future - a school might offer more than the rest.

URI? That’s nowhere near the ballpark of those other three. Lehigh and RPI are highly respected engineering schools. UMD is pretty good too, with DC area being great for recruiting. All three have good reputations and great job opportunities for their engineering grads. They are all very different. One is a tech school, one a diverse small university, and one a large public. Which is best depends on overall fit for you.

Unless you’re in state and it’s dirt cheap, URI doesn’t even belong in the same discussion.

You have to see where you get in and which schools are affordable. In general, I would consider what type of environment you want for college – they are fine schools but very different schools. Lehigh is a mid-size private school, RPI seems (at least by reputation) to be more of a technologically centered school, and UMD is a huge state school. I agree that URI is not as strong but if it is your state school and it is a lot cheaper then it is likely worth considering. Another suggestion is UDelaware which is strong for chemical engineering as they have a relationship with DuPont.

Why are you asking this now?

Yeah URI is in state for me and my guidance counselor told me that on top of the in-state tuition i would likely get some sort of scholarship, thats the only reason I have it on the list
