I was under the impression that most schools will not make wait list decisions until well after May 1.

On the Lehigh portal, my message said that I will have a final decision about my wait list status no later than April 26.

I don't know whether this is a really good or really bad sign?

I have wanted to go to Lehigh since the first time I saw them at a college fair in 10th grade. With so few people getting off the wait list the past two years, it would be silly to get my hopes up but you have to be true to what you really want!

I actually don’t think that they are going to inform people of if they got accepted off the waitlist at different times, so everyone probably hears back on the 26th.

However, if you keep showing interest than you may just be one of the lucky ones! I’m routing for you! Best of luck.

Email your admissions council, tell them that you are still very interested, ask if there’s anything you can do, you can even visit again. Send them ANY new information that will help you, tell your guidance counselor that Lehigh’s still your top choice (on the off chance that they contact your GC, it would help for him or her to know what your intentions are).

Your best bet would be to write a sincere email. Tell them that you’re still interested and go as far as to say why.

Do not let your parents contact for you, do not bother them, do not question their judgement. If you are sincere and polite, you may leave a lasting impression.

I agree that showing interest may help improve chances of being taken off the waitlist. Communicating with admissions counselors may help to cement the idea that you’re still willing to attend Lehigh even after being waitlisted.

However, I would urge all waitlisted students to not get their hopes up. According to Lehigh’s Office of Institutional Research:

2012:Students put on waitlist: 1337, Students accepted from waitlist: 0 2011:Students put on waitlist: 1514, Students accepted from waitlist: 1 2010:Students put on waitlist: 1206, Students accepted from waitlist: 14 2009:Students put on waitlist: 1160, Students accepted from waitlist: 43 2008:Students put on waitlist: 1388, Students accepted from waitlist: 7 2007:Students put on waitlist: 1096, Students accepted from waitlist: 72 2006:Students put on waitlist: 807, Students accepted from waitlist: 2

The trends from the past 3 or 4 years would seem to indicate that although Lehigh is putting more students on the waitlist, it is also taking fewer students off the waitlist and offering them full admission.

So would visiting be worth it at this point? I live about 5 hours away from Lehigh and have not gone a campus visit. By visiting Lehigh now and then emailing the admissions office help me?

Have you visited before? Were you waitlisted? If you were waitlisted, as I said before, there is a relatively low chance of getting accepted in. It’s not impossible. In the past, Lehigh has accepted quite a lot of students when you look at the data. It might be worth it, especially if you didn’t visit before.

One of the more common reason that one is waitlisted from Lehigh is for not showing interest through campus visits and whatnot. It couldn’t hurt to do a visit unless it will terribly inconvenience you to do so.

My son was offered a Lehigh January 2014 acceptance from the waitlist, today by email. In their letter they stated, that they do not expect to offer any regular fall admittances off their waitlist, this year. He will of course accept this offer!!! Lehigh is his first choice school!!! Good luck to all the others who are awaiting decisions from the waitlist at Lehigh.

I also got an email today, and was offered January admission. They say it’s unlikely they’ll utilize their wait list for fall enrollment this year, but have offered admission for January for a select group of students. The email also mentioned they were impressed by my unwavering interest in the school (which I find ironic, because neither I nor my guidance counselor have gotten a direct response from anyone at the admissions office).

They don’t mention anything about financial aid (will I even be considered for this?), and expect a decision and deposit by May 1.

Lehigh is still my top choice, but I’m unsure what to do now.

My son was also offered a spot for January 2014 admission. I’m not sure what to recommend to him…start engineering at Drexel University in the fall, or wait until spring to start at Lehigh. Lehigh was his first choice, but Drexel was also impressive.

Or any ideas how to keep the kids busy until January?!?!

also received the jan 2014 admissions email. lehigh’s always been my top choice, but i’m not too sure how i feel about waiting one semester. i feel like i’ll have a harder time adjusting and i’ll fall behind. furthermore, i was just starting to love/get used to the school i was going to send my SIR to!

Stats
*GPA - 3.97 (unweighted)
*AP - None, High School did not offer AP or Honors classes.
*ACT - 27
*Class Rank - Top 10%
*Major - History

Lehigh does not rank its wait list. Therefore, he was proactive while on wait list. Visited Lehigh while on wait list (from California), communicated with admissions and updated his EC’s, Academic Spring grades, and sent an additional teacher recommendation letter. He is going to accept their January Freshman offer. Lehigh is his first choice school! He was also accepted to Drexel, Syracuse, Hofstra, and the University of Delaware. Lehigh wins in his book hands down! It works out perfectly for him. He plans on taking some courses at the Jr. College where we live in Fall (just cannot take over 11 units- otherwise he will be a transfer student and would need to reapply) to keep up with the class of 2017.
Wishing everyone who is waiting to hear, good luck and congratulations to those who already received the January Freshman offer from Lehigh!

I agree with MerryGoRound… how many students will start in January, and what challenges will they face in integrating into an existing community?

Which school were you going to commit to before being accepted off the waitlist?

“The Office of Admissions at Lehigh University has not yet extended any offers of admission to students currently on our wait list as of Friday, April 26th. We hope to have a clearer indication by Tuesday, April 30th.”

That seems a direct contradiction given that posters here have received emails offering January 2014 admissions. It seems they HAVE made their wait list decisions (not taking anyone from list for Fall …but a select group for January). But, for some reason it will take until Tuesday to figure out how to officially update the portal.
