About my school: A top NC school. A Wake and UNC-CH "feed school" ... we send our top 10% to those schools, generally. The top of the class go to Duke or a top 20 school. We've had several students at Duke & UMich (focusing on where I'm applying).

Interviews?: Had two; one at Wake, another at Duke. Both went fairly well. :3

Essays?: They should all be pretty good. The UMich essay was edited by a professional edition.

Recs?: Should be all decent. I am considering submitting a second recommendation to UMich.

Hooks?:
Legacies at UMich (Grandpa, uncle, cousin), UNC-CH(Dad, mom, brother, and 7 more), and Wake(aunt).
More about UMich: I had a family friend, a very respected professor at UM write me a recommendation. I also visited the campus, had my counselor call my application counselor, and I personally (and politely) updated my EC's there.

More about Wake: My step dad works there as a professor part time (this does not help with my tuition, unfortunately). I also take lessons from the flute teacher there.

Applying to: UMich (LSA - deferred w/o ACT score, or midyear report), Wake, UNC-CH, and Duke

I applied everywhere undecided with an interest n cellular biology/clinical psychology/music theory and composition. :)

Great chances at UNC and umich. Good chances for wake. Duke is probably a toss up but not completely out of reach.

Duke is definitely my reach. Thanks for the chance though, GeeFizz! I’m kinda concerned about my chances at UMich, personally. But I’m glad you think I have a shot. x3

I’d say you’ve definitely have good odds at UNC, Michigan (the recommendation from a professor there will definitely help), and Wake. Duke is probably a bit reach if they put a big emphasis on SAT scores, but other than that you’ve got a good chance given your courseload, school, GPA and ECs.

please chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1297808-last-chances-will-chance-back.html#post13958030</a></p>

I do think Duke emphasizes SAT scores over GPA … My scores are in range, but really kinda ‘meh’ for Duke. Hence, it is a reach. I’ve worked very hard and I have applied to very good schools. I’ll be happy where-ever I end up going.

Yeah compared to what I’ve seen of UNC-CH applicants in-state, you have a very good shot there. I don’t know about UMich; however. Wake Forest a good shot as well. I would have to agree and say Duke is the reach, but thats good, I hate Duke (Die hard tar heel fan :P)

I’m not too sure about the other two schools but Duke definitely looks like it will be a bit of a reach. Both your SAT and SAT II’s are a bit low. Somewhat surprising to see a 640 on Math 1, especially with your GPA and rank. Other than that though you’re application looks pretty solid.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1298080-chance-me-please-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Yeah, my SAT scores in general are low. I’m not a very good test taker, though I think my GPA correlates with my general intelligence/ability in college. I can’t sit down to take a test for 4 hours. For some reason, the ACT was a little less pressured and more entertaining for me to take.
I’ll chance you guys back.

buuuummmmpppppp.

bump-ity bump-tiy bump.

I’m going to bump this again, actually, by stating that I was accepted at Wake and UNC this past weekend. I am still waiting for UMichigan and expecting rejection at Duke at least.
OH and excuse my typos in the original post. I made that post on a tablet. /laughs.
" The UMich essay was edited by a professional edition. " – Goodness, I hope so!
