How long are your average classes and how many periods do you have per day?
Are some classes longer than others?
Just trying to compare my schools to others.
My average class length is 47 minutes and we have 8 periods a day. However, AP science classes are a period and a half so they’re about 65 minutes.
We go on block schedules! Four out of eight classes a day, for about 90 min, switching between “A” and “B” days. I really like it because you don’t have to worry about every class every day.
@jf09199 That does seem kind of cool but some days I feel like I would hate to sit through a class that long.
Some days I can barely stand my 65 minute AP Chem class.
7 classes at approximately 45 minutes each.
I’ll try to describe my daughter’s high school. They take 7 credits a year. There are 6 classes most days out of 7. they Rotate so one day may be periods 1-6 the next day 2-7, then 3-1 etc. There is a long block say 11-1. That class is 90 minutes and 30 minutes is lunch which could be any one of 4 different times depending on what the teacher picks or is assigned (no idea how that part works). On early release there are 5 classes and if there is a late entry fewer classes. I think other classes are 50 minutes. Those days aren’t part of the regular rotation but put on the online student site to check the day before. Some AP classes may be double periods. Study hall is no longer an option unless a teacher is absent.
We have four classes in a semester at ninety minutes each.
At my school, we have block schedules. Each class is 90 minutes and we get like 20 minutes for lunch. Our block schedule is a little different than other schools I’ve seen because we go to class every day and classes that are usually a year is a semester (ie English 4) and classes that are usually a semester are a quarter (ie some electives). The school only gives you classes you need/want, so most people don’t have all 4 blocks. 1st block starts at 9:30 but I would say most people don’t have class until 2nd block which starts at 11. They try to keep schedules flexible because a lot of students have DE classes that could range from 8 in the morning to 10 at night.
I didn’t know block schedules were so popular. At my school, we have 6 classes a day that are 54 minutes each, with around 30 minutes for lunch. Classes last all year long, with a few exceptions (Gov, Econ, Psych, etc.).
8 periods, 45 minutes each, including lunch
6 classes, block schedule, really boring
we have 7 blocks (ABCD) and your class meets 9/10 days in a two-week rotation. Students can take 5 academic courses (6 if you get special permission) and then electives fill the other 2 blocks.
My school has 8 periods in the day at 45 minutes each. EXCEPT we have 35 minutes for lunch between 4th and 5th hour and we have a special 40 minute “break” period for clubs, academic help, studying, going for walks etc between 6th and 7th hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
