Hello everybody,

I am applying to Cooper Union for the Fall 2011 semester and I had a question about the essay questionnaire.

Is there a desired length for these essays? Is brevity favored?

Thank you.

Hello everybody,

I am applying to Cooper Union for the Fall 2011 semester and I had a question about the essay questionnaire.

Is there a desired length for these essays? Is brevity favored?

Thank you.

i don’t think so, as there is no limit specified. of course, one cannot write pages and pages and expect admissions offices to go through them. i think 500 words on average for the longer essays would be good.

I wrote pretty long for each one

for engineering I wrote about 10 pages double spaced, times new roman, 12 font. I was accepted into Cooper and I would like to say my essays were a large part of the reason I got in.

Furthermore, I went to the Open House in November and one of the students at Cooper sad his essays were 8 pages not double spaced.

Mine were 13 pages with single spacing and 12 font. I haven’t got in yet, but I am hoping for the best. I put in a lot of effort into the essays.

That’s great! Good luck! Is CU your number one choice?

well, cooper union and cornell are my first choices. I don’t really know which I would go to if I was accepted to both. I don’t know how being an international student will affect my chances. But fingers crossed! Considering I spent almost two months writing out the essays and revising them over and over again, I’ll be a little disappointed if I don’t make it to Cooper Union. But I won’t complain. I’m competing with so many other amazing students. So we’ll see. I’m hoping for, but not expecting, an acceptance.

that’s great goodluck! I hope you get in and hopefully see you next year!

@mianahrs: do you know if Cooper Union awards credits for the IB diploma? I’ve applied for engineering and I have a 41 predicted out of 45 in the IB with 7 in math HL, 7 in chemistry HL and 6 in physics HL. 7 is the highest grade possible.

and i hope to see you next year too!! :)

no idea, I don’t take the international tests.

Do you want me to chance you for cooper? PM me your stats gpa sats ect ect

Thank you to everybody who responded. :)

@mianahrs: no, it’s all right. i don’t like chance threads, simply because i don’t think they provide a clear indication of where one is. i used to do them before, but have stopped. but thank you for asking! :)

@mianahrs: i was wondering whether cooper union takes into account SAT writing scores. Is my effective SAT score out of 1600 or 2400? thanks for your help!

i got a 490 on writing if that helps. The representative who came to my school told us that writing does not mater and they absolutely don;t look at it. Its math and reading. If you have under a 750 in math though it will be very hard to get in.

oh :S i have a 740 in math and 590 critical reading. but i’m hoping my IB grades, GPA, recs, EC’s will hopefully get me in.

So… my ‘essays’ are all going to me very short. Fantastic lol
