I know it should be one page, but do they have any specifications on font, etc.?

I was wondering that too. I just went with a standard 12 pt font and 1-inch margins

i was wondering that also!! double spaced?

no i want single spaced!

Supposedly it doesn't matter, as long as it doesn't go over a page.
My friend simply had a paragraph and he got in last year, probably because of his essay and not his nonchalant Why Penn one.

whoa i thought the why penn one was suppose to be the most important. did he do the optional one or just the common app.

He applied using the Penn application, that's all I know.

can we slightly adjust margins etc?

mine was about 650 words? .75 margins all around. single spaced and i got in. hahah i dont think it really matters as long its not one sentence and not two pages. although, if i was reading the essays id prefer them to be single spaced. but taht's just me.

If your essay is really big you can manipulate the margins and spacing for it to fit all into one page; so much so that it doesn't look crowded. They dontreally look at the word count as long as your essay is good!

300-750 words on either extreme. 500 is ideal.

I don't get it, though.
On the Common App, it says that it is 1 page, but then it allows 7900 characters?
So is the limit the 1 page or the characters?

Just one page. I'm pretty sure the 7900 characters only apply to the dual-degree programs.

Research has shown that font ARIAL 12 with double-spaced works the best to catch the readers attention. I also think that 500-700 words are the best length for an essay. But it totally depends on you guys to decide to do whatever with your essays.

what "research" ^^

@sleepingbeauty:
I remember my English instructor telling the class that. But I don't know what specific research it is.
