Length OK?

Hey guys,
I just finished up my "why transfer to penn" essay and it turned out to longer than most college essays. Currently its about 1100 words, or about 2 pages singled spaced. There is no limit on the online application, so I figured I'd go all out...This ok?

may i see your why penn essay? I am not applying there, but i just wanted to see how you can write 1100 words :S
i have always been a terrible writer :(

same. my bu essay is only like 400 words.

Wow... my longest essay is only 850 words... that's some essay if you have over a thousand. I don't think it would be a problem regarding length as long as its not twenty pages or something. The longer it is, the more likely their just going to skim though.

Hmm...what about essays for which there ARE word limits? I am 170 words over a 500 word limit, but I have small (VERY neat) handwriting...they're not going to count, are they? (It's for Brown...)

i think penn's app says it should be approx. one page long

You handwrote an essay? Don't most schools require typed essays?

On the Brown application, you can handwrite your essay; however, typing is also permitted (ie. attaching a typed essay).

yeah i handwrote mine too; it was like 290 over the limit and i was worried for a bit but i kept it just the way it was..i didn't even really need to alter my handwriting! :-P

my why dartmouth essay is 2050 words..and not done. theres no limit on that one, but im glad there is a 6000 character (1000ish words) on the 'why are u transfering" general app. i need to finish that one too! eeep

i handwrote all my apps for Macalester last year, and here i am.
