Ok, so for about the past month I have been attempting the application at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I say attempting because; although, I have sent everything in on time, my "guidance counselor" has failed to do so. I had the entire application, including ACT scores and letters of recommendation, online a month prior to the deadline and before the scholarship application deadline. I have harried her to get my transcript in every week and all I get is the response, "I don't know why it's not in yet. It's in the mail." So now the application deadline has passed, and I am out in the cold with an unfinished application. My questions are whether or not UTk accepts applications after the deadline, how tough they are on you if you miss the deadline, and if my guidance counselor and I called UTk and prove that something happened to the transcript in transit would they accept my application?

Please help me out! I don't know what to do if I don't have the chance to attend UTk. I have good grades, a 30 ACT, and good EC's, so I should be able to get in if given the chance. I do not like anywhere else in the state of TN, and I can not afford out of state. If I am not allowed to apply to UTk, would it be possible to go to a smaller school so I don't lose my state scholarships (like a community college or a small in state University), then transfer to UTk for the Spring and Summer semesters. I would like to do engineering with a pre-med track, but it looks like I'll be at least a semester behind on the engineering (possibly a year) because all engineering students are required to take a pre-engineering course and I don't know whether they offer it during the summer and spring semesters.

Thank you guidance counselor, thank you so very much. She is probably going to expect a thank you when I spend hours in her office monday trying to talk to UTk. She is not getting one. I would not have to be trying to research what to do when this happens (which apparently doesn't happen very often because you know sending in transcripts is a big part of the guidance counselor job), or spend however long I will spend in the office Monday. The lessons I have learned from this are: do not go to a private school where they believe they can do whatever just because certain state regulations do not apply to them and do not trust guidance counselors to send in your transcript.
